Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids

Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids

Fasten your seatbelts, you’ve got a rendezvous with a jazz master at Salon İKSV; the American multi-instrumentalist, saxophone player/composer Idris Ackamoor, pioneer of cosmic jazz from the 70s to this day, and his cult project The Pyramids.

Born and raised in Chicago, Idris Ackamoor has studied under many instructors, including the legendary pianist Cecil Taylor. Ackamoor and the band he founded in the early ‘70s, The Pyramids, frequently travelled across Africa during the ‘70s and enriched their music with new members and instruments. The first curtain was drawn in the history of The Pyramids when they decided to disband in 1977. Ackamoor spread his message across the world organising events as the founder and artistic director of the San Francisco-based multi-disciplinary performance company Cultural Odyssey. Towards the end of the 90's Ackamoor released two albums titled Portrait and Centurian. 2010 was a remarkable year for jazz. The Pyramids reunited under Idris Ackamoor’s lead went on tour and most significantly, after more than 35 years, we were able to get our hands on previously recorded yet unpublished The Pyramids tracks with the release of the 2012 album, Otherworldly. The same year Ackamoor was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Gilles Peterson at the Worldwide Awards Show in London. The album Otherworldly released in 2012 was followed by We Be All Africans in 2016, and An Angel Fell in 2018.

The Space Age begins at Salon İKSV with the otherworldly jazz of Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids.

This event has an age restriction of 18.
