Istanbul Jazz Festival presents: Bright Bridges feat. Tcha Limberger & Uğur Işık

Istanbul Jazz Festival presents: Bright Bridges feat. Tcha Limberger & Uğur Işık

Romani music star Tcha Limberger’s newest project with cellist Uğur Işık at Salon

Tcha Limberger started music by playing the clarinet, switching to guitar on the road. Worked with the likes of Dick van der Harst, Fabrizio Cassol, and Alain Platel. Settled on modern jazz and contemporary classical music. Earned an unusual success with his urban Hungarian folk music (Magyar Nóta) band. Formed ‘Les Violons de Bruxelles’ in which he collected young jazz violinists and became one of the utmost representatives of Romanian culture and music in Europe. The Bright Bridges project in which he brings together Turkish, Belgian and Romanian musicians will meet the listeners for the first time at Salon with the kind contribution of the Belgian Flemish Culture Ministry, even before their European debut in Ghent. Tcha Limberger on violin, vocals and compositions will be joined by Alex Simu on the clarinet, Claudio Cioc on cimbalom, Uğur Işık oncello, and Elif Canfeza Gündüz on kemenche. To join the band on the Salon stage, Uğur Işık is familiar to the audiences in Istanbul from his concerts at home and many countries abroad with the bands like Bosphorus, Anadolu Feneri, and Sarband. A virtuoso not only in cello but also in ud and kemenche, Işık has also composed music for films and documentaries. His contributions to the album ‘Cello Unveils Anatolian Spirit’ and Derya Türkan’s ‘Minstrel’s Era’ in the company of contra bassist Renaud Garcia-Fons earned him a wider audience. Cancel your plans for the evening of 14 November and make sure to be at Salon to witness this unique musical encounter.

A night to celebrate a wide range of urban folk music from Flamenco to jazz, and Romanian to Turkish folk music.
