Swiss virtuoso accordion player born in Bosnia.
He spent his early youth figuring out which instrument to call his own. He received undergraduate education in Hannover and graduate degrees on chamber music improvisation in Basel. Despite his classical training, he realised that he missed the chaotic feeling of playing in a band. During his time in Switzerland, he appeared on the stage with numerous bands, worked as a producer, composed soundtracks for films, as well as establishing his own studio and record label. In 2015, Geoff Barrow of Portishead was fascinated with Batkovic’s accordion performance and invited him on tour to support his band Beak. Afterwards, he signed with the Invada record label founded by Barrow. In 2017 he released his first solo album from Invada. The tickets for Batkovic's Salon İKSV concert on 17 November 2018 were sold-out days in advance. His performance was so sensational that it left the audience craving for more. Fortunately, our wait hasn't lasted long; Mario Batkovic will be at Salon two night in a row on 11 and 12 October.
If you should like to witness how the accordion could be played in such an experimental, unconventional and fascinating way, this illuminating experience with Mario Batkovic is just the thing for you.
