Composer and singer who brings new flavour to world music by creating a universe where pop, rock, ambient, jazz and funk blends with traditional Kurdish music.

Ruşen Alkar started her professional music career in 2005. She released her debut album Sebr in 2015. This past November, she released her second album Hêdî Hêdî. This album was realised by the distinguished and productive figure of contemporary music, composer/arranger Şevket Akıncı. Hêdî Hêdî, literally “Slowly Slowly” and meaning “gradually”, is a cross-breed album in which the rhythms of local and urban life intermingle and fuse, and genres such as post-punk, ambient, contemporary jazz, krautrock and funk blend with traditional Kurdish music. Hêdî Hêdî bears a hopeful darkness as well as a joyous melancholy. Ruşen Akar’s extremely original interpretation comes together with Şevket Akıncı’s powerful arrangements, forming a bold and inviting attitude. It leads the listener to the possibility of an individual and melancholic existence.
